Diet and Needs
The Eastern Box Turtle's diet is made up of earthworms, crickets, slugs, carrion (dead animals), wild strawberries, and mushrooms. They have long claws to dig with so they can get worms and slugs, and their beaked mouth can rip off pieces of meat from dead animals. Box Turtles can also use their shell as protection from rain, hail, predators, and other threats.
